Toronto

It is with heavy hearts but countless treasured memories that we announce the passing of Evangelos Maragoudakis. Evangelos peacefully passed away in Thessaloniki, Greece on June 18th, 2024 surrounded by loved ones.

He was a beloved husband to Stavroula (Stefani) for 48 years, a cherished father to Spiro & Faye, Zoi & Jim, and an adored Pappou to Evangelia, Silas, and Vasili. Evangelos was also a loving brother, brother-in-law, Godfather, cousin, uncle, and a true friend to many.Predeceased by his father Spyridonas, his mother Zoi, his father-in-law Anastasios, and his mother-in-law Paraskevi, Evangelos leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter.Born in Pyrgoi, Kozani on October 11, 1946, Evangelos spent his early years in Chania, Crete before immigrating to Canada in 1970 in search of greater opportunities. It was there he met his wife Stavroula in 1975, marrying her in 1976. Their family grew with the births of their children, Spiro in 1977 and Zoi in 1983. Known fondly as the "ice cream man,” Evangelos was hardworking, dedicated, and brought joy with his humor and infectious laughter. In 2019, God blessed Evangelos with a life-saving kidney transplant, enabling him to enjoy a good quality of life and cherish moments with his grandchildren. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the donor, their family, and the wonderful team at St. Michael's Hospital for this precious gift and their exceptional care.In May, he fulfilled his heartfelt wish to return to Greece with Stavroula, visiting their ancestral homes, paying respects at family resting places, and savoring the beauty of Crete and Northern Greece while spending precious time with loved ones.Despite falling ill shortly after visiting Panagia Eikosifinissa in Serres, where he fulfilled a personal vow, Evangelos passed away peacefully following a brief battle with pneumonia and its complications.Evangelos will be remembered for his humor, his one-liners, and most importantly, the deep love he had for everyone around him. He imparted the wisdom of ‘θέλημα θεοῦ’ (God's will) to his children, guiding them through life's challenges. He passed knowing he was deeply loved and cared for during his final weeks. We sincerely express our gratitude to our relatives in Greece for their unwavering support during this difficult time.Evangelos often said, "ήμαστε εδώ για ένα μικρό ταξίδι" ("we are here on earth for a short trip"). Now, he journeys on to a better place.

*Καλό ταξίδι μπαμπά, αιώνια σου ή μνήμη* ("Safe journey, Dad, may your memory be eternal")
