Toronto

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Francis Roderick “Roddie” MacLeod, on Saturday February 17th at Kensington Hospice, Toronto, at the age of 81, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on April 14, 1942 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Roddie was the third youngest child of a large and loving family. Roddie leaves behind a wealth of cherished memories with all his siblings. Loving brother of John (Sid) MacLeod of London, Ontario, Verna Cameron and Carol (Ken) LeClair of PEI, Bertha Richards of Guelph, Ontario, Brendalee (Jack) Stokes and Blair MacLeod of PEI. Uncle Roddie is lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews, Gil, Vicki, Kirt, Mike, Paul, Darcy, Joanne, David, Darlene, Steven, Craig, Kenneth, Brenda, Michael, Linda, Robbie, Todd, Bobbi-Jo, and Laura-Beth. Predeceased by his parents Sankey and Mary (Mahar) MacLeod, brothers Manny, Dewey, brothers in law Donnie Richards, Brent Cameron, sisters in law Fran MacLeod, Bernice MacLeod, nephews Mark MacLeod, Lawrence MacLeod. All lovingly remembered in our hearts.

In his youth, Roddie was a faithful newspaper carrier for many years for the Halifax Chronicle-Herald, and played the bagpipes and chanter. He moved to Toronto in the early 1960’s and held various jobs including the Campbell Soup Company. He worked as a painter, from the 1970’s up until his retirement. He had a passion for his acoustic guitar and enjoyed playing and singing country and folk music. He was fond of chess and crib. Roddie had a great sense of humour and was well liked by his many friends and neighbours. He loved being around his nieces and nephews and all his family. Roddie was very proud of his Scottish heritage and displayed Scottish items throughout his home. He loved his Tim’s double double coffee right into his final hours.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Kensington Hospice and his healthcare professionals at St. Michaels Hospital for their support and care of Roddie during his illness. Special thank you to his nephew Gil, for always being his loving and main support throughout. Roddie appreciated you very much. Thank you to his sister Bertha, and Vicki, Peter, and Sharon for your loving support and help throughout. Thank you to his sister Carol, along with Bertha, for being there for Roddie in his final hours.
