Franklyn Joseph Dsouza

June 9, 1939 — November 16, 2022

What is it to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides,

so that it may rise to seek God unencumbered?

Kahlil Gibran.

With grieving hearts, we, the family of Franklyn D’Souza announce his passing on 16th November 2022 in Mississauga at the age of 83. Son of the late Manuel and Sabina Dsouza and brother of the late Dominic and Camillo, he is survived by his sister Rosalind.

With his wife, Lydia by his side, they shared 53 years of togetherness and devotion to each other. He was a caring father to Ryan, Nigel and Llewelyn and was always involved in their studies and in their professional choices. He was a loving father-in-law to Nandita and Dixelle who valued his wisdom and affection. He in turn welcomed them as his daughters. He cherished and doted on his five grandchildren – Karan, Rhea, Allegra, Amadeia and Zoe. They are devastated by his passing and they will miss his loving and encouraging presence in their lives.

His brilliant financial mind was based on his master’s degree in Commerce. He was a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers. He advanced professionally as a banker to the position of Chief Manager at the Bank Of Baroda. His staff have always been full of praise for his guidance as Manager, his sensitive handling of difficult situations and his willingness to reach out to help his staff. They saw him as a wise and caring mentor and leader.

We are grateful to our family, neighbours and friends in India, Canada and abroad who have stood by us throughout our lives and who have always been there for us. We are grateful for their prayers, guidance, and help. We express our deep sense of gratitude to the Fathers of the parish of St. John of the Cross and to those in the Ministry of Care who administered to Franklyn’s spiritual needs. We are also grateful to the doctors and nurses of Credit Valley hospital who helped him in his stay at the hospital.

The metaphor of a ship sailing away from the shore comes to mind. We, his family, and friends watch as he sails away from the Harbour of this life to a distant shore. We bid him farewell as we tearfully say, “There he goes” but we know he has reached the far shore, where those who have gone before, reach out with welcoming arms as they say “Here he comes!”.

We commend him to the Lord.

We bid him a fond farewell on Monday, November 21st, 2022 at 11.00 am at Saint John of the Cross Catholic Church, Mississauga.
