Freda Shinner

SHINNER, Freda - In her 99th year, passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2021. Predeceased by her parents George & Ethel Washington, sister Eileen Lawton, brother Ron Washington, and her husband John Shinner. Will be sadly missed by daughter Carolyn, son-in-law Jim Lackner and grand-daughter Jenney (Brandon) Valley, and friends. Freda was proud to have served in, and received a Service Medal from, the Women’s Royal Navy Services of England, 1943 – 1946, during which she met and married her Canadian soldier, Harold John Shinner. She retired in 1988 after 28 years’ service with the Barrie Examiner Advertising Department. Freda enjoyed her home and garden with her dogs in Barrie’s east end for 65 years. The family is deeply grateful for the loving care Freda received at the Bob Rumball Home. A graveside service will be held at Barrie Union Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army Barrie Citadel or a pet rescue of your choice will be gratefully appreciated.
