Fumiko Yamamoto - February 7, 1930 to June 27, 2024
We announce with great sadness the passing of Ms. Fumiko Yamamoto on June 27, 2024. She passed away peacefully that evening at the age of ninety-four. Fumiko was born in Steveston, British Columbia. She and her family lived in Alberta for several years before relocating to Ontario.
Fumiko worked for Yellow Pages until her retirement in 1988. She then dedicated her time and commitment to the community and volunteer work with Unicef and The Art Gallery of Ontario. She was a generous benefactor to several organizations including Sunnybrook Hospital and The Toronto Buddhist Church. She received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal at the 2012 Governor General’s of Canada Awards for her outstanding contributions and service to the community.
Fumiko also enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, photography, travel and art.
She was predeceased by her parents Fukusaburo and Makino; her siblings Hats, Shigeo, Eiji and Tak. She leaves her brother Yosh and her nephews and nieces.
