On May 19, 2023, at the young age of 76, Gail Laura Camilleri (née Whitehead) went home to Jesus, her beloved saviour.
Born on May 6, 1947, Gail was the youngest of three children born to Laura Craddock and Stuart Whitehead. Gail began her life on Oliver Street in Humber Bay (Toronto) together with her sister, Donna, and brother, Allin.
When Gail was six years old, her family moved to the Village of Port Credit, which at the time was primarily farmland. She lived there on and off for many years, punctuated by some time in each of Kirkland Lake, Ontario and Prince Edward Island.
A mother of two -- Shane and Sheri -- and grandmother to six -- Joel, Rafael, Samuel, Isabel, Rachel and Miguel -- Gail was passionate about her position as a personal support worker for senior citizens. Throughout her lifetime, Gail was also a devoted Christian and took great comfort in her faith.
Even while working and raising a family, Gail always found time to pursue her creative side. She was talented at everything she tried, including fabric painting, bunka embroidery, stained glass, rug hooking, ceramics and, more recently, watercolour painting.
In 2003 Gail moved to Barrie, Ontario with her daughter. During her retirement, she embraced her full-time job as a busy and devoted live-in grandmother. She will be dearly missed by many, including her furry family household companions, Caesar, Lola, Kyrie, Titan and Daisy; extended family; and dear friends.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 29 at 2:00 pm at Collier Street United Church (112 Collier Street, Barrie, ON L4M 1H3; 705-726-1511), followed by a drop-in reception from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.
