George Glenn McGivery

With heavy hearts, the family of George Glenn McGivery, 74, announces his passing, which occurred at Credit Valley Hospital on Thursday, February 6, 2025. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick on August 22, 1950, he was the son of the late Medley and Cora (Sherwood) McGivery.

George is survived by his sons Darryl, Gregory McGivery and daughter-in-law Annette, a loving grandfather to his sunshines Brayden, Mason, and Cameron McGivery. Brother to Richard (Pat), sisters Gladys McGrath, Elaine Flood, and several nieces and nephews, especially Randy Flood. George was predeceased by brother Darryl McGivery, sisters Frieda McGivery, Donna Haslett, and Nida Stuart, Gertrude Gill and brothers-in-laws John Stuart, Bob Flood, Raymond McGrath, and Roland Haslett.

George moved to Mississauga in July 2015 to be closer to his beloved grandchildren. Papa was instrumental in raising his 3 pride and joys, he would read books with them, sing songs, play soccer, taking them to the bus on top of all other things. Papa had a sweet tooth which he passed on to his grandsons, giving them access to his candy drawer. Papa shared his abundance of hockey knowledge with anyone who would listen. Papa’s joy came from attending his boys' hockey games and correcting the refs when necessary. He loved Elvis, country music, and playing guitar, and talked fondly of his childhood years in Saint John, especially visits to Uncle George’s farm. George was supported through his cancer journey by his son, Greg, daughter-in-law Annette, and his friend Carolyn. A big thank you as well to everyone that helped take care of him at home and in the hospital.

George’s life will be celebrated at Tabernacle Baptist Church and he will be laid to rest with his mom and dad in Saint John, New Brunswick at a later date. In lieu of flowers George asked for donations to be made to Sick Kids Hospital or AA (Alcoholics Anonymous)
