George’s journey began in Hungary where he was born in Budapest and raised in Tatabanya.
He received his Textile Chemical Engineering Degree in Budapest before embarking on a long and fruitful career as a Textile Colourist, and it was through his work that he met the love of his life, his soulmate and wife Julie.
George was not only accomplished in his professional life but also as a competitive swimmer and water polo player. Even after immigrating to Toronto, Canada in 1957, his love for swimming was unwavering. He swam 1 km every day.
Throughout his remarkable 35 year career, working as Chief Chemist at DRG packaging and later Winpack, George made significant contributions to the development of protective packaging for perishable foods and pharmaceuticals; and earned himself recognition as a distinguished speaker at international packaging industry seminars.
Retirement marked a new chapter for George, when he revelled in the tranquility of his family cottage near Parry Sound. He was continually renovating and rebuilding to create a welcoming space for all. He lived for his family and their wellbeing.
George lived his life in a self-disciplined way, determined to reach the age of 100. Although his time was cut short at 96, his impact on the lives he touched continues to reverberate. He is dearly missed as Julie’s beloved life partner of 68 years, unselfish and supportive father to Christopher and Yvonne (and late son-in-law Alan), and doting grandfather to Dylan, Alison and Richard.
The family also extends its deepest gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Humber and St Joseph Hospital emergency and the Runnymede Health center, who tried their best to keep him with us.
