It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George (Georgios) Stavropoulos, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on February 14, 2025 at the age of 78.
George was born in Papada, Greece, on March 28, 1946, to his late parents Christos and Yiannoula Stavropoulos. George made the decision to move to Canada, where he built a successful and fulfilling life and created his beautiful legacy.
In 1969, George married the love of his life, Helen (Eleni), and together for 55 years, they built their family. He was a dedicated and loving father to his 3 sons Chris, Tom and John; a treasured father-in-law of Antonia; a cherished grandfather of Eleni and Vicki, whom he adored deeply; and a loving brother to his 9 siblings who meant the world to him, ♱⃓Antonia (♱⃓Theodori), Georgia (♱⃓Dionissi), Panayioti (Kostoula), ♱⃓Vasili (♱⃓Eleni), Κaterina (Anastasios), ♱⃓Panayiota (Bill), Nick (Georgina), Tom (Katina), Effie (Alex). George was also a beloved uncle to all of his nieces and nephews whom he held dear in his heart. George loved his family more than anything, and was the happiest when spending time with them.
He was one-of-a-kind, loved by everyone and a friend to all. He was a passionate and hard working man who became a proud owner of James Restaurant with his two brothers, Nick and Tom, and his brother-in-law, Bill. There, for 38 years, he shared his love for people, food and hospitality. George had a positive impact on everyone that he met. He enjoyed life to the fullest, whether at the golf course, at celebrations, or with family and friends, and always with good humour and a smile.
George’s life will be fondly remembered as one filled with love, generosity, kindness, positivity, laughter and dedication to his family.
George was the heart of our family and the light of our lives. Despite going through serious health issues over the years, he was the most positive person ever. He never complained, and was a fighter through it all right until the very end. George had a heart of gold and will be immensely missed by all.
