It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of our beloved father Gerald (Gerry) Lewis Kitt, a proud Sergeant (Ret.) of the Canadian Armed Forces. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, 11 April 2023 at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario, in his 78th year.
Gerry was born on 10 August 1944 and raised in a small town where he learned the values of hard work, responsibility, and commitment to his country. At 17, he enlisted in the military and was stationed at Gagetown, NB, serving with the 2nd Regiment, Royal Canadian Horse Artillery for most of his career. After retiring from service, he worked as a carpenter, and later became a commissionaire for the military police.
He had a passion for sports, especially the Blue Jays, soccer, and the Toronto Raptors. He had a love for animals, and for travel, and Italy held a special place in his heart.
Gerry was a patient man of resilience and courage, who never complained in the face of life's most difficult challenges. Throughout his journey, our father faced countless obstacles, but he never let them break his spirit. He was a true example of what it means to be a fighter - a man who never gave up, no matter how difficult the situation. He lived his life with dignity and grace, and his unwavering courage inspired us all.
To those fortunate enough to spend time with him, he was known for his gentle nature and his famous wink. He had a unique way of letting people know he appreciated them and that everything was going to be ok. His sense of humor and witty one-liners made us laugh, sometimes in the toughest moments. Soft-spoken with a kind heart, his spirit will live on through the memories we hold dear. He was a man of few words, but the impact he left on those around him will never be forgotten.
He was Dad to daughters Melanie (Darrell), Twila (Jeff), Carrie-Ann (Frank) and Natasha (Marc). Grandfather to Jaydon, Jacob, Cara, and Benjamin. Predeceased by his wife Geraldine, son Marshall and sister Sharron. We will always remember his courage in the face of adversity, and his never-ending devotion to his country, family, and community.
Rest in peace, dear Dad. You will be sorely missed and remain forever in our hearts.
