After a battle with multiple illnesses, our beloved Gerry Flemming has passed away.
Gerry was born in Truro, NS. He attended St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish where he befriended the then-unknown John Allan Cameron. John Allan and Gerry became a popular music duo on campus, rocking their acoustic guitars and entrancing the crowds with vibrant performances and soaring voices.
Music became Gerry’s love and hobby as he graduated and moved into a career in contract negotiation for Swifts (later Canada Packers; Bunge). In Riverview, NB, he married his bride, Sandy. They remained together over 50 years, and were only parted by her passing in 2017.
Gerry is survived by his son Gerald and his wife, Allison Flemming, his daughter, Kristi and her husband, Walt McCall and his beloved grandson Connor McCall. He was loved by Allison’s parents, Hollis and Helen Hiscock, Walt’s parents, Walter and Denise McCall, and his wonderful neighbours.
Gerry loved Southern Gospel music, Martha Washington geraniums, Louis L’Amour books, the Raptors, the Blue Jays, and most of all, food - both cooking and feasting. He was renowned for his magical bread-baking abilities, and rarely showed up anywhere without a loaf of freshly baked buns for everyone to take home with them.
Gerry made legendary buttermilk pancakes, thought the best part of any song was the vocal harmony, and never met a dog he didn’t like.
More than anything, Gerry loved time with family. Whether it was at a backyard bbq or a Mandarin Buffet, his favourite moments were spent with everyone gathered around the table, sharing stories, songs, and laughter.
He is forever loved and remembered by all who knew him.
