1932-2018
It is with great sadness that the Mongeon family announces the passing of Gilbert Mongeon on January 1st, 2018 at the age of 85. He is survived by his cherished wife Lucienne, (nee Patenaude). He will be deeply missed by his children Sandra (Pat), Mario (Lydia), and Erik (Tanja), and 2 grandchildren Colin and Kayla, as well as many other family members and friends. He is predeceased by his parents Gédéon Mongeon and Albertine Nadon, his sister Gilberte and step-brothers Siméon, Gérard, Roland and Horace. A generous soul, he always opened his heart and home to all. His family is what he cherished the most. He taught us to value each day and to love without measure. Many evenings were filled with laughter and joy as we danced and sang, and played cards, board games and billiards. Everybody will surely remember "La chanson du rire" (the song of laughter). Many thanks to the staff and volunteers at The Centre d'Accueil Champlain who were so kind and compassionate during Gilbert’s stay and especially during his final days. A private service will be held at the Hope Cemetery, Ottawa, ON, for immediate family members. A Mass will be held in memory of Gilbert on Sunday, January 14th, at 11:00 am at Sainte-Geneviève Church (825 Canterbury Ave, Ottawa, ON); and also on Sunday, January 21st, at 10:30 am, at Saint-Jacques church (1041 Notre Dame St, Embrun, ON). Memorial donations in memory of Gilbert may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Ontario, Ottawa and Renfrew County (http://www.alzheimer.ca/en/ottawa)
