Gordon Alexander Neilson

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Gordon Alexander Neilson, of Ottawa by way of Windsor, Ont, who passed away at the age of 78 on April 4th, 2022.
Gord will be remembered by his wife, Noreen (née Gallant) Neilson, and 3 children, Scott, Jillian and Megan. Gord was a proud ‘Poppy’ to his 8 grandchildren; Christopher (Cierra), Elizabeth, Katherine (Steven), Emily (Kalum), Joshua, Daniel, Maggie and Jude. He is survived by and will be missed by his siblings, Archie, Nancy, Margaret, Helen (Sava), Barry (Linda), and Sheila (Tom); as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Gord was predeceased by his parents Charles and Agnes; brothers, Bobby and Jim; and sisters, Mary and Donna.

There are many highlights to share when looking back on the full life Gord lived. A veteran of the Canadian Armed forces, Gord retired after over 30 years of Canadian Military Airforce Police service in the early 90’s. He then started working with engraving, medals and trophy making, which he enjoyed thoroughly, as it kept him in the arenas for many years. Throughout his life, Gord spent a tremendous amount of time giving back to his community. As the president of Gloucester Ringette for several years, he brought ringette into the lives of many and took pride in sharing his passion for the game. He was easily recognized for his boisterous laugh after telling a joke, and his love for his Toronto Maple Leafs, which he wore with pride everywhere he went. There was never a place he went without making a friend. Gord actively ran the bingo out of the Osgoode Legion for numerous years, combining his passion for advocating for veterans while maintaining an active social life.

A Celebration of Life will be held at held at 1:00pm, on May 14th, 2022, at Pat Clark Community Centre (former Cyrville Community Centre) at 4355 Halmont Dr, Gloucester, ON, K1J 8W6, with reception to follow.
