Graciela Zuniga Nunez

Graciela was born on June 7, 1935. She passed away on April 2, 2021 in Toronto, Ontario. She fought hard against the ravages of the Covid-19 virus and the separation from her beloved family who were not allowed at her bedside.  Despite this, in her final days fighting for her life, Graciela was greatly comforted by Bible scriptures such as Isaiah 41:10 .

Her family and spiritual brothers and sisters also prayed on her behalf so that she may have peace and comfort.  Graciela is survived by her husband Mauro and their 5 children.  She is predeceased by her son Mauro Dante.

The Early Years

Graciela was born in the town of Pativilca in the province of Barranca in the region of Lima, Peru.  She was the youngest of 6 children:  Fabian, Mario, Eduardo, Maximo, and sister Consuelo.  Graciela and her siblings were orphaned at a young age and were raised by their aunts and uncles.

In her late teens, Graciela met Mauro in Lima and shortly after they got married and started a family.  They raised three sons and three daughters; from eldest to youngest they are Mauro Dante (late), Wilson, Josefina, Grace, Liliana, and Cesar.  Graciela enjoyed being a homemaker and her priority was always her children.

As her children grew, they married and dispersed.  Her eldest son moved to Venezuela and Graciela migrated to Toronto, Canada in 1990 with her husband, two sons and their dog Pinto to join her daughters in Canada.

Over time, the Zuniga lineage expanded to include 12 grandchildren, as well as 7 great-grandchildren. Graciela had the pleasure of helping to raise her grandchildren and watch them go on to have their own families.  She took pleasure in taking care of her household pets and enjoyed family gatherings and weddings, although shy she would make her way to the dance floor and dance to her favorite tunes.  Graciela also enjoyed travelling back to Peru to visit her siblings, their families and travelled to Venezuela to visit her eldest son and his family.

In 2003, Graciela and Mauro began studying the Bible to get to know their Creator, Jehovah God.  In time, Graciela made a decision that would affect her life forever and got baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness on September 13, 2003.  Graciela and Mauro attended weekly congregation meetings and participated in the preaching activity to share the good news of God’s Kingdom with their community.  In fact, this was so close to Graciela’s heart that she would occasionally participate as an auxiliary pioneer to spend more time in the preaching work.  Graciela’s daughters recall how she eagerly sought after the opportunity to informally witness to any Spanish speaking person.

On February 26, 2021, Graciela’s firstborn Dante Mauro Zúñiga lost his battle to Covid-19 and passed away.  This was heartbreaking to all of Dante’s family, especially his mother Graciela.  A little over a month after his death, the family felt the pain of losing their loved one again, their mother.  Words cannot convey the pain of losing Graciela, however, we have the wonderful promise that in the coming earthly Paradise Jehovah God will bring Graciela and her son Dante back to life. Graciela will have the privilege along with her family, friends, and billions of others to help restore Paradise to the earth, where old age, sickness and death will be “no more”. ( Isaiah 33: 24 , Revelation 21:3,4 )

Obituario de Graciela Núñez de Zúñiga

Graciela falleció el 2 de abril de 2021 en Toronto-Ontario, Canadá. Ella luchó tenazmente contra el Covid-19 y también contra la ansiedad que genera el no poder contar con la visita de su querida familia quienes no fueron permitidos estar a su lado. Pero a pesar de eso, en sus últimos días de luchar por su vida, Graciela sintió el consuelo de las escrituras bíblicas registradas en Isaías 41:10 “No tengas miedo, porque estoy contigo. No te angusties, porque yo soy tu Dios. Yo te daré fuerzas. Sí, yo te ayudaré. Con mi mano derecha de justicia, de veras te sostendré”

Su familia y sus hermanos y hermanas espirituales también oraron constantemente para que ella pueda tener paz y tranquilidad. Graciela deja en vida a su esposo Mauro y a sus cinco hijos. Su hijo mayor Mauro Dante falleció un mes antes que ella.

Sus Primero Años

Graciela nació en Pativilca, provincia de Barranca en Lima-Perú. Fue la última de seis hijos: Fabián, Mario, Eduardo, Máximo y Consuelo. Graciela y sus hermanos se quedaron huérfanos muy pequeños y fueron criados por sus tíos y tías.

Al final de su adolescencia, Graciela conoció a Mauro en Lima y luego se casaron y tuvieron familia. Ellos criaron tres hijos y tres hijas, de mayor a menor: Mauro Dante (fallecido), Wilson, Josefina, Graciela, Liliana, y Cesar. Graciela disfrutó mucho el ser ama de casa y sus hijos siempre fueron lo primero para ella.

Sus hijos se hicieron mayores y se casaron. Mauro Dante su hijo mayor se mudó a Venezuela y Graciela emigró a Toronto Canadá en 1990 con su esposo, sus dos hijos y su perrito “Pinto “, para reunirse con sus dos hijas que ya estaban en Canadá.

La familia Zúñiga está conformada también por doce nietos y siete bisnietos. Graciela tuvo la alegría de ayudar a criar a sus nietos y verlos crear sus propias familias. Ella disfrutaba de las reuniones familiares y las bodas, a pesar de su timidez a ella le gustaba bailar al ritmo de su música preferida. Graciela también disfrutó mucho de viajar a Perú para visitar a su hermana Consuelo y sus familiares. También viajó a Venezuela a visitar a su hijo mayor Mauro Dante.

La creación de Jehovah tuvo un lugar especial en su corazón e incluso se dedicó a la crianza de sus propios animales domésticos como pollos, pavos, conejo, patos etc. s e incluso tuvo un gran placer en cuidar de las plantitas de jardín.

En 2003, Graciela y su esposo Mauro empezaron estudiar la biblia para conocer a su Creador Jehová Dios. Con el tiempo Graciela tomó la mejor decisión de su vida y el 13 de Setiembre de 2003 se bautizó para ser una Testigo de Jehová.  Graciela y Mauro asistían regularmente a sus reuniones semanales en el salón del reino y también participaba activamente en la predicación de las buenas nuevas del reino de Dios. De hecho, ella amaba de todo corazón hacer ocasionalmente el precursorado auxiliar para dedicar más tiempo a la predicación. Sus hijos recuerdan con mucho cariño como ella diligentemente buscaba la oportunidad de predicar informalmente a las personas de habla hispana.

El 26 de febrero de 2021, Mauro Dante el hijo mayor de Graciela, perdió su batalla contra el Covid-19 y se durmió en la muerte, lo cual fue muy doloroso para ella y toda su familia, 35 días después, la familia volvió a sentir el dolor de volver a poder a otro ser querido, lo más preciado que pueda haber: a una madre.  Las palabras no pueden describir el inmenso dolor de perder a una sacrificada madre. Sin embargo, tenemos la hermosa promesa de la resurrección, que muy pronto aquí en la tierra convertida en un paraíso, Jehová Dios traerá de regreso a la vida a Graciela y a su hijo mayor Mauro Dante. Graciela, su familia, amigos y billones de personas tendrán el privilegio de ayudar a restaurar la tierra a un paraíso donde la vejez, la enfermedad y la muerte habrán desaparecido. ( Isaías 33:24 , Apocalipsis 21:3,4 )
