Joachim Hans Karl Wredenhagen passed away on July 26, 2024 in Toronto, Ontario, at the age of 99. Hans was born on June 29, 1925 to Alfred & Ottilie in Rottweil, Germany. Hans' memory will be carried on by his wife, Gerd; their children Eric, Finn, Glenn and Suzanne and their partners, Lara, Isabelle, Dorothy and Pete; and by his grandchildren Cameron, Quinn, Madeleine, Nadege, Elise and Thomas.
Having survived two years as a prisoner of war in Russia as a teenage soldier, Hans emigrated to Canada in 1954 to start a new life. He settled in Montreal, Quebec and found work in his trade as a furrier. As a new immigrant, he worked hard, and ultimately established and operated a successful business of his own for decades. Hans was affectionately known as a "renaissance man" to his family and friends, and was happiest when gardening, foraging in the forest and painting beautiful landscapes. He enjoyed spending time at the family cottage in the Laurentians and later, in his retirement years, in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, living a sustainable lifestyle, harvesting giant zucchinis from his bountiful vegetable gardens and enjoying life with his family and friends. Hans was a survivor who instilled many valuable lessons in his children and grandchildren about peace, self-reliance, determination and perseverance. He will be forever loved and missed by his family.
