After refusing to succumb to cancer for much longer than her doctors anticipated, Harriet finally lost that battle November 9, 2020. She passed away peacefully, with her husband by her side and a smile on her face, at the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice (Hospice Care Ottawa), in Kanata, Ontario. Harriet died knowing she was loved greatly by many.
Harriet was born on July 28th, 1949 in Moncton, New Brunswick, and spent most of her youth in Arnprior, Ontario. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Doris Finner and is survived by her sister, Patricia Finner and brother Brian Finner.
Harriet’s life partner for almost 46 years is her beloved husband, Keith McFarlane. Meeting in 1975, and marrying in 1989, Harriet and Keith were blessed with a wonderful life which provided many opportunities to travel the world experiencing many amazing adventures (including the revolution in Romania and bungee jumping in New Zealand at 44 years of age!). Harriet was also a loving mother to Michelle (Baja) and Jennifer, a stepmother to Tanya McFarlane and a very loved grandmother to Jory Sabourin, Jaide Florence, Nikki Nadarevic, Tessa Nadarevic and Olivia Figueiredo. Harriet’s special relationship with her granddaughter Jaide, whom in 2007 she and Keith took on the rewarding challenge of raising, will be forever cherished and lovingly remembered.
Harriet was an exceptional woman who will never be forgotten. May she rest in eternal peace.
Due to Covid-19, there will not be a service at this time. Harriet’s life will be celebrated when larger gatherings are permitted.
To honor Harriet's memory, and to give thanks to all of the loving and caring staff who made her final days as comfortable as possible, donations to the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice (Hospice Care Ottawa) will be appreciated.
