It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Avis Chapman on January 9th, 2025 at Bethel Hospice. Avis is survived by her children - JoAnne Chapman-Carroll (daughter), Barry Carroll (son-in-law), Kimberly Chapman (daughter), Mark Chapman (son), Amanda Chapman (daughter-in-law). She is also survived by 9 loving grandchildren - Dana, Ashley, Denim, Melissa, Kyle, Jessie, Sarah, Krystal and Scott. Avis was blessed with 15 great grandchildren. Ernest Chapman, her beloved husband of 67 years, predeceased her in 2023.
Avis was born and raised in Truro Heights, Nova Scotia and was the oldest of 8 children. She moved to Toronto in 1955. Shortly thereafter she met Ernie and they married in 1956. Avis was a mother of 3 and the wife of a Toronto Police Officer. She devoted her life to her family enabling her children to follow their dreams. Avis was extremely proud of her children, she loved her grandchildren and adored her precious great grandchildren. She was beloved by all of them and was always surrounded by their joy.
Avis was very active throughout her life and enjoyed her years with Ernie at Rosedale Village and then her time at Mountainview Residence. While she loved puzzle making and reading, her favourite sport was golf! She loved her weekly games with the gals but especially enjoyed playing with Ernie.
Avis was a dear friend to many. She loved meeting new people and easily established friendships - many of which lasted a lifetime. She was gracious and kind and will be remembered by many for her love of life, her welcoming spirit and her devotion to her family.
Please visit the Tribute Wall on this site to remember Avis. A private burial and Celebration of Life will take place at a future date.
