Helen Marguerite (Carmichael) Northrup passed away on December 24, 2022 after a short illness. Helen was born November 12, 1940 in Pearsonville, New Brunswick to the late Harold and Muriel (Williams) Carmichael. She was the sister of Ray Carmichael and Evelyn Lamb, and much loved aunt of Debbie Bonnell, all three of whom predeceased her. She was the mother of Lisa (Ray Murray) of Arnprior ON, and Sheri (John Au Coin) of Ottawa ON, and the cherished grandmother of Liam and Adam Northrup-Au Coin, also of Ottawa. She had several nieces, nephews and cousins across Canada.
Helen enjoyed her family and friends and never failed to return from a shopping trip without buying 3 of something "useful", one for her and one for each of her daughters. She was endlessly generous with anything she had. She was friendly and just a little bit nuts, as she used to say. She loved to tease and could laugh at herself just as easily; "you have to laugh" she would say "otherwise, how can you take it?" And by "it" she meant life.
Helen worked at Walmart for almost 25 years and retired at 65 to help with her 2 grandsons for the next 5 years, until she retired completely, moving to Winchester, ON. She spent her final 3 years with her daughter Lisa, and son-in-law, Ray, in Arnprior, ON.
She was fun, funny, plain-spoken and never minded calling it like it is. She had lots of friends and family who will all miss her dearly.
Helen will be cremated and her ashes interred with her parents and brother in Pearsonville, New Brunswick in the coming summer.
For those who wish to do so, please make a small donation in her name to the Ontario Humane Society, Amnesty International, or the charity of your choice.
