Ian Bradford Darling

Ian Bradford Darling, in his 87th year, passed away peacefully at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, Ontario on November 23, 2024 with his loving wife Valerie at his side.

Proud father to his four children: Steven (Kim) of Toronto, Robert (Amber) of Trenton, Kathy (Kevin) of Madoc, and David (Kelley) of Ottawa. As well as his stepchildren: Sandra (Bruce) of Barrie, Susan (Matt) of Waterloo, and David (Nancy) of Alliston. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Born in Saskatchewan, Ian was the cherished son of the late John and Annis Darling. Ian spent his childhood and working years in Trenton as a dedicated retailer for over 50 years, namely Darling’s Stationery, and was a strong supporter of local events and charities. He was always very involved in the community where he lived, including 48 years in the Trenton Rotary Club, President of the Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Business Improvement Association and Chair of the Trenton Non-Profit Housing Association, and many more. He enjoyed his retirement in Barrie with Valerie and continued his passion for serving his community as a longtime volunteer at Royal Victoria Hospital.

A celebration of life will be held at Grace United Church in Barrie on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 10:00am.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional care Ian received at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in Ian’s memory are invited to contribute to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie or a charity of your choice.

Internment will take place in the spring of 2025 at Mount Evergreen Cemetery in Trenton.
