It is with great sadness that we share the loss of a unique, bright and energetic woman, Ivy Rivett. She passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at the age of 86 at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie.
A great believer in spirituality, Mom knew she would reunite with her beloved husband, Ambrose "Amby" Francis Rivett, who predeceased her. She was a very special mother to David (Vicki), Ann, and Gail (Eileen), and a fiercely proud and loving "Grandma" to Matthew, Brett, Danielle and Nicole. She was predeceased by her sister Alice and brother Charles, from her birthplace, in Manchester, England, and cherished her continued contact with Eric, her brother-in-law. She will also be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, other family members and close friends.
Mom believed you created a life of happiness by your own actions. She was an ardent community activist, from working with young children in elementary schools, to fundraising and supporting the Grandmothers & Grandothers of Africa foundation.
She challenged herself to constantly learn, from mastering the D'jimbi drum at 83, studying Buddhist learnings, and creating songs of inspiration. In her own words:
"Remember you are one of God's children,
Only he knows your worth, Make sure you give him your best,
By being kind to those on this earth.
Make every step you take, lead you nearer to him,
And with it life's Blessings in full."
The funeral service will take place on Thursday, September 17, at 10am at St. Mary's Church, 65 Amelia Street, Barrie, Ontario, L4M 1M7. This will be directly followed by a reception at the church. Donations would be appreciated, in lieu of flowers, to Grandmothers for Grandothers of Africa.
