4 October, 1958 - 22 December, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Kevin Murray Chisholm on Friday, December 22, 2023. He passed peacefully with wife Barbara at his side at Hospice Simcoe, after a short battle with cancer.

Kevin, as his family called him, was born in Inverness, Cape Breton, but grew up in Toronto, Ontario. After finishing high school, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1979, serving on multiple fleets including the CT-114 Tutor, CH-124 Sea King, CP-140 Aurora (his favourite), and CF-188 Hornet aircraft. In addition to turning wrenches on several fleets, Kevin completed multiple operational deployments before he retired from the Regular Force in 2001. He then continued to support the military as an instructor in the Primary Reserve, in Shearwater, Nova Scotia. In 2007 he and Barbara moved to Angus, Ontario, where he completed several years as a civilian instructor at the Canadian Forces School and Aerospace Technology and Engineering. In total, Kevin served the Canadian Armed Forces for over 28 years, proudly and with distinction.

After a short period of retirement, Kevin took a position working for the County of Simcoe as a building manager. Kevin was beloved by his tenants, always willing to stop in for a chat to share a laugh or two, and it is no surprise that he made many friends along the way.

Kevin was also a dedicated member of Corinthian Lodge # 96, in Barrie, Ontario, joining the Freemasons in 2008. Holding several positions within the lodge, Kevin was elected to serve as Master from 2014 - 2015. Known for his “work”, and commitment to the Masons, Kevin will be missed by his brethren from many different lodges.

Reflecting on his many accomplishments, Kevin was most proud of his loving family. Though grown, his daughters Darlene and Kimberley will always be his little girls. With an abundance of happy memories, Kevin loved to tell stories of his girls when they were young, always with a smile from ear to ear. In these tales, he would always mention that he could not have been the father he was without the support of his beautiful wife Barbara, who supported him and their family for over 40 years. Without question, Kevin loved his family and will be remembered as a wonderful father and husband.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara (West) Chisholm; daughters: Darlene Elizabeth (Kyle Paynter) of Middle Sackville, N.S., and Kimberley Dawn Samantha (Adam Fairman) of Fall River, N.S.

He is predeceased by his father, Donald Beaton Chisholm (Inverness, N.S.) and mother, Elizabeth (Murray) Chisholm (Mabou, N.S.).

He is survived by his sisters: Donna Chisholm (Dann Cook) of Ladysmith, B.C.; Elizabeth (Ted) Grigsby of Trenton, Ont.; Carolyn (Michael) Bourque of Mississauga, Ont.; and Robert Vincent Chisholm of Edmonton, Alberta. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at Basic Funerals and Cremation Choices - Jennett Memorial Centre 152 Bradford St., Barrie on Wednesday, 03 Jan at 3 pm, with visitation at 2 pm.
