James "Jim" Norton Martin

After a short and courageous battle with cancer, Jim passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Centre in Oshawa on October 31, 2020. Jim was a devoted husband of 56 years to Shirley (MacBride) and loving father to Denise (Ron) and Susan and proud grandpa of Michael (Catherine), Jessica (Seth) and Kevin (Natalie). Jim was born to parents Julia and Clifford Martin on March 12, 1942. He was a loyal brother to Sherwood, Bill, Charlie, Clifford and John and brother-in-law to Patricia ( Albert), Jane ( Bruce) and uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents , Julia and Clifford and brothers Charlie and Bill. In Jim's younger years , he was an accomplished Judo athlete, champion chess and pool player and was a fabulous salesman. He was known for his sense of humour, quick wit and passion for film and watching golf. Jim was thoughtful, kind, unassuming and always said, "There are no problems in life, just adventures," a motto that his family embraces. Jim will be deeply missed and his memory will be cherished forever. His legacy lives on within his daughters and grandchildren. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
