Jan Poot

It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Jan Poot, retired lawyer and former Councillor of the City of Vaughan, at the age of 78.

Jan died of aspiration pneumonia, caused by brain disease. He is survived by his wife, Maria Pede, his children Jay, Robin, Sarah, Adam and Matthew. He leaves his grandchildren, Morgan, Riley, Liam, Holly, Sienna and Jan Jr. He will be missed by his sisters, Anne Westerhoek, Sita Broesma, Rita Gerber, Jean Williams and Jeanette Ostlander, by his brothers, Leen, Arie and Ben Poot, and by his many nieces and nephews.

Jan is predeceased by his parents, Leendert and Maria Poot, and by his sister, Joanne Luinstra.

Many thanks to the friends and relatives who supported Jan throughout his illness. Special thanks to the staff at Sheridan Villa and Kipling Acres for their kindness and assistance.

In accordance with Jan's wishes, a private family memorial has taken place. In lieu of flowers or donations, please plant a flower in your own garden in remembrance of Jan.
