Janette Morag (Glen) Reid

August 1, 1933 — November 11, 2021

Janette Morag Reid (known as Morag to those who knew her, and Mo-Gar, Mog-Rag or Janette to those who didn’t) passed away suddenly on Nov. 11, 2021, at the age of 88, at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket, after a happy summer spent with her beloved nephew Captain David Marshall (ret’d.) in Angus, ON. Her last summer was spent smoking cigarettes on the deck in the shade, enjoying the flowers and birds, squirrels and rabbits, reading, eating good food that someone else cooked, and being taken on outings.

Morag was born in London, England, of Scottish parents and grew up in Glasgow, Scotland, where she worked in a library before getting married to her husband Hugh Kennedy Reid. They then moved to Canada where her two children Alison and Malcolm were born. In his teens, her nephew David also immigrated to Canada and became, for all intents and purposes, her second son.

Morag wrote sardonic poetry about things that annoyed her. She read constantly and loved mystery novels. She crocheted and liked to bake cookies, and laughed at their occasional failure. Ask us about “bullets” sometime.

She and Ken travelled as often as they could, throughout Canada and the United States, and to Britain, France, Panama and Cuba.

They were actively involved with the Queen’s York Rangers regiment of the Canadian Armed Forces reserves, where Ken was a major. Morag enjoyed a good party and loved to dance, and had many social opportunities through the Rangers.

Morag leaves her children Alison and Malcolm (Colleen), her nephews David and Colin (Renata), her sister Irene (Harry), her granddaughters Rachel and Siobhan, grand-nieces Kate and Lauren and grand-nephew Jack.

At her request there will be no funeral service or gathering.
