It is with heavy hearts we announce that Janice Elizabeth McNabb passed away on September, 15, 2024.
Of Janice’s many accomplishments, her greatest joy was being a mother to her daughters, Laurel and Rowan. Her unconditional love and pride in her daughters were evident for all to see.
While her formal education was a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Western Ontario, it was Janice’s inquisitive mind, her drive to understand the why and the how of life that resulted in so many of her successes. She was a self-taught cook, seamstress, and home fixer. If there was an explanation of how it could be done, fixed or made better, Janice would research it and do it.
Her inquisitive nature extended to people. She was interested in their stories, their dreams and their views on the world. Her above average listening skills and superb advice giving, that were so often appreciated by friends and family, and her genuine desire to help other people contributed to her success in the Organizational Change and Career Management field in the UK, Australia and Canada and eventually as a Certified Professional Coach.
She volunteered at Habitat for Humanity, was actively involved in the curling program at the High Park Club, and worked as a Research Assistant at the Developmental Cortical Physiology lab at University of Toronto.
People were drawn to Janice. To her compassion, her warmth, her kindness, and her generosity of spirit. She will be missed by friends made from childhood, travelling, curling, and neighbours.
Pre-deceased by her parents Joan and Allan McNabb, Janice will be greatly missed by her daughters Laurel (Michael) and Rowan (Connor); her siblings David (Kate), Andrew (Anne), Marcia (Nezam); her Aunt Nancy and Uncle Fred (Kathie Mallet), her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
The family would like to thank Dorothy Ley’s community palliative team as well as the staff at Princess Margaret Hospital who provided such wonderful care over the last year. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) or a charity of your choice.
