On September 26, Jean Hollett, age 95, passed away peacefully with family by her side. Jean had a long full life. Jean’s husband Ron predeceased her in 2017 after 67 years of marriage. Jean is survived by her children Trish Steeby (Jim), Dave Hollett (Karen), Barb Ball (late Rick), Debbi Templeton (Ralph), Marg Hollett (Peter/Dan) as well as 16 grandchildren and spouses, 26 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Jean’s predeceased by family: Muriel (Denison) & Stanley Hill (parents), Diana Paterson (late Alastair), Mary Godown (late Dick) and Margaret Noble (late John). She will be missed by family: Alan Hill (Nancy) and Grace Hollett (late Harold).
Born in Montreal, Jean’s roots began in the Eastern Townships in Richmond and Denison Mill’s Quebec. Jean attended Mount Allison University where she met Ron, from Newfoundland, and they married a few years later. Throughout their lives they flourished wherever they lived through their church life and community involvement. Initially with the RCAF in the Maritimes where the 3 oldest children were born, and then Montreal and the US where the younger 2 joined the family. Whether family time at their cottage or in their winter home in Florida, life was always full of fun and adventure. Jean’s faith and love for others was her guiding light. She had a very special way of sharing her wisdom and strength when others were in need. She had a wonderful sense of humor which would make her blue eyes sparkle when she smiled. She will be missed by many who loved and admired her.
A special thank you to her caregivers at Garden Terrace who made Jean’s final months so enjoyable. We are very appreciative of family and friends who visited Jean in her final years.
Instead of a service, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 26 at 1 pm, in the Social Room at 2625 Regina Street, Ottawa. Jean's Celebration of Life will be a lunch followed by music, informal readings, and an opportunity for family and friends to share our memories and stories of Jean and how she touched our lives. If you plan to attend, please get in touch with family as lunch will be served.
In lieu of flowers, in Jean’s memory, donations can be made to Holy Trinity Church, Denison Mills via Canadahelps.org or a charity of your choice.
