Jean-Louis Brisson

La famille annonce avec regret le décès de Jean-Louis Brisson à la résidence Venvi Portobello d'Ottawa, le 19 mars 2025 a l'âge de 86 ans.

Jean-Louis fût prédécédé par sa conjointe Rose Morrissette, par la mère de ses enfants Gilberte Clément, par ses parents Albert et Lauria Brisson et par ses frères Gerald, Alain et Robert ainsi que ses soeurs Leola Brisson et Huguette Fillion.

Il laisse dans le deuil ses enfants Roch, Carle (Nathalie), Darquise (Keith) et Ginette (Vern), ses beaux-enfants Candice et Kim, ses petits-enfants Emilie, Jacob, Joshua, Chloe, Sara, Amy, Jean-Loup, Pascale, Eddie, John, Christina, Michael et Alex ainsi que 10 arrières petits-enfants.

Jean-Louis est née à Cochrane le 25 juillet 1938. Son amour de la musique se développe à un jeune âge. Dès les années de collège il prêtera sa belle voix aux chorales existantes. Une activité à laquelle il s'adonnera toute sa vie, tantot commme participant mais aussi comme directeur de chorale. Homme joviale et sociale, Jean-Louis a développé de nombreuses amitiés, tant au college, dans sa vie professionel que personnel. Il adorait réunir un groupe autour du piano pour le faire chanter au son de ses mélodies.

La famille de sa conjointe Rose, l'a accueilli avec beaucoup d'amour et il affectionait le lien privilégié qui l'unissait à eux. De ses enfants, il parlait avec fièrté et se réjouissait de leurs success.

Jean-Louis a oeuvré dans le domaine de l'éducation toute sa vie et fût un enseignant de français aimé par ses élèves. Ardent défenseur de la cause de la langue française pour laquelle il éprouvait une profonde affection, il a activement participé à la lutte qui aura pour résultat d'accorder à la communauté d'Iroquois Falls, l'établissement et la gouvernence de son école francophone. Jean-Louis termine sa carrière comme doyen des services en français au collège Northern de South Porcupine à la fin des années '90. Depuis une vingtaine d'années il habitait en Outaouais.

 Une célébration de vie aura lieu en juin. Les détails suivront.

The family announces with great sadness the passing of Jean-Louis Brisson at the Venvi Portobello residence in Ottawa on March 19, 2025, at the age of 86.

Jean-Louis was predeceased by his partner Rose Morrissette, by the mother of his children, Gilberte Clement, by his parents, Albert and Lauria Brisson, his brothers, Gerald, Alain, and Robert, and his sisters, Leola Brisson and Huguette Fillion.

He is survived by his children, Roch, Carle (Nathalie), Darquise (Keith), and Ginette (Vern), his stepchildren, Candice and Kim, his grandchildren, Emilie, Jacob, Joshua, Chloe, Sara, Amy, Jean-Loup, Pascale, Eddie, John, Christina, Michael, and Alex, as well as 10 great-grandchildren. Jean-Louis was born in Cochrane on July 25, 1938. His love of music developed at a young age. During his high school years, he lent his beautiful voice to local choirs. He devoted his life to this activity, both as a participant and as a choir director. A jovial and outgoing man, Jean-Louis developed many friendships, both at school and in his professional and personal life. He loved gathering a group of people around the piano to sing along to his melodies.

His partner Rose's family welcomed him with great love, and cherished the special bond they felt with him. He spoke proudly of his own children and grand-children and rejoiced in their successes.

Jean-Louis worked in education his entire life and was a beloved French teacher. A fervent defender of the French language, for which he felt a deep affection, he actively participated in the struggle that resulted in the establishment and governance of a French-language school being granted to the community of Iroquois Falls. Jean-Louis ended his career as Dean of French Language Services at Northern College in South Porcupine in the late 1990s. He had lived in the Outaouais region for about twenty years. 

A celebration of life will be held in June, details to follow.
