Joan McLaughlin was born on June 7, 1933 in Renfrew County. She passed away peacefully on February 12th, 2021 at Queensway-Carleton Hospital in Ottawa, ON with her daughter by her side.
Joan was a warmhearted and cheerful person, her laugh could fill the room completely and she could always find something to talk about. She was a natural caretaker, having helped raise 2 of her 4 siblings during childhood, and later raising 3 of her own children. After marrying the love of her life, Earl, they traveled the world together and lived in various places; to name a few: Victoria BC, Halifax NS, England, and Scotland. They settled in Kanata ON in 1968. Her love for travel continued into her late life as they joined a traveling wine club and a local gourmet club. She adored her job as a dental secretary and was a dedicated member of the Kanata Theatre and St. Isidore’s parish.
Joan was a loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, and will be dearly missed. She is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Earl. She was a doting mother to Donna (ex-Eddie), the late Beth (Michael), and Brian (Margaret). She is fondly remembered by her grandchildren, for whom she gave the world: Courtney (Alexandra), Amy (Nicholas), and Sarah. She was the oldest of 5 children, survived by her dear siblings Leona (the late Ken), Luella (the late Tom), Butch (Elaine), and Elaine (Keith).
Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at QCH in A3 for Joan’s care and comfort.
Donations can be made in Joan’s name to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada https://www.heartandstroke.ca/ (donate button on the main page).
