Peacefully on July 10, 2022, in Mississauga, Ontario, at the age of 97. Beloved mother of Bettye (Richard), Arnold (Margaret) and James (Marlene), her eldest son who passed away in 2017. Fondly remembered by 12 grandchildren, Alicia, Erin (Ken), Michael (Christa), Katie (Matt), Allison (Frank), Lindsay, Mallory (Alan), Michael, Laurie (Luis), Nicole, Carmen, and Kenneth, 22 great-grandchildren, Vanessa (Mike), Adam, Victoria, Zachary, William, Lincoln, Benjamin, James, Nathaniel, Madison, Hannah, Amelia, Rosie, David, Blaine, Kyle, Crystal, John, Jacob, Vicki, Victoria, and Mercedes, and 7 great-great grandchildren, Hailey, Jacob, Levi, Don, Asher, Scarlett and Avery. Beloved aunt of Olivia (Michael) and Terrance (Margaret). Predeceased by her sister Betty and parents James and Mary. Born in Darlington, England on August 27, 1924, Joan came to Canada in 1943 and resided in British Columbia and Saskatchewan. In the 1960s she came to Ontario and established a verbatim reporting business working in all levels of trial courts, commissions, boards and inquests throughout the province for over 30 years. Joan valued creativity, athleticism, community and family. These values were exemplified by her work as an artist (her water colour paintings were exhibited in juried art shows), her athletic pursuits (she excelled as a competitive swimmer) and her encouragement and support of others in their artistic and sporting endeavours. She was always willing to help people. Having experienced World War II herself, Joan had no hesitation in opening her home to people displaced by war. Joan was active in Trinity Anglican Church in St Thomas and St Luke’s in Toronto volunteering in the office for many years. Joan cherished family get togethers and kept everyone up to date with her Family Echo newsletter and Sketchers’ Club. Special thanks to the staff at the Village of Erin Meadows for their compassionate care of Joan for the past year. An Internment service will be held on July 25, 2022, at 1pm at Glen Oaks Cemetery 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville, Ontario.
