John Kelso Moncrieff Bratton

d. December 30, 2020

Passed away peacefully after a short illness with cancer, at North York General Hospital, on December 30th, 2020,  with his family by his side. He will be greatly missed by "his bride" of 43 years Nancy, his children Stephanie (Brian) Belanger, Andrew (Dana) Bratton, his grandchildren Molly, Westley, and Emily, his brother, David Bratton and sister Beverly Oxman. Predeceased by sister Helen Kennedy.

John worked as a teacher and art consultant with the Durham Board of Education, and later as an investment broker with BMO Nesbitt. Throughout his life he enjoyed many sports, such as scuba diving, flying, skiing, sailing, fishing, and later in life, golfing. He was a ski instructor and held the position of president of the High Park Ski Club for a term.  He also volunteered to be on the executive of District 16 of the Retired Teachers of Ontario for 20 years, holding various positions, including President for two years.

John was an enthusiastic traveler and loved exploring the world on the many tours and cruises he and Nancy went on over the years. He particularly enjoyed a river cruise down the Rhine and Danube and wandering the streets of Paris.

John was a generous and helpful person with a wonderful sense of humour. He enjoyed socializing with his friends, he was a master of trivia, and quickly completed daily crosswords in pen. He was an amazing handyman and always had the right tool for the job. He took up baking bread in the last few years. A favourite was his delicious olive bread.

We invite you to raise a glass of single malt to John and remember as he always said, “You can't beat fun for a good time.”

The family wishes to thank the Palliative Care Team at NYGH for providing then with compassion, care, and comfort.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, when it is safe for us to get together. To honour him, consider donating to North York General Hospital or Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre .
