Johnnie died suddenly at his home in Ottawa, ON. The beloved first-born of Susan and Brent (deceased) Burns and brother to Elspeth, he will be sorely missed by all of his family and friends, both here and abroad.
His career path was interesting – after obtaining his CA degree, he worked in public practice for a number of years. He then turned to teaching and coaching in a high school for more than 15 years, but did take time off for accounting assignments in Poland and Kosovo. His colleagues and students were very dear to him, and many considered him family. He had a passion for physical fitness, being tidy, and looking sharp; most importantly, he had a passion for those he loved – Johnnie loved love. He showed us all what it means to be a true friend – loyal to a fault, stubborn about things that matter, and consistently punctual. He never showed up empty-handed, and always communicated the next day to express his thanks.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to:
John Burns Memorial Fund
– West Carleton Secondary School, for scholarships to students pursuing postsecondary accounting/finance studies; or
The Ottawa Mission
, to fund activities dear to Johnnie, a place where he volunteered regularly.
There will be a celebration of Johnnie’s life on July 16th at 3 pm, at the Kinburn Community Centre, 3045 Kinburn Side Rd, Kinburn, ON.
Rest easy, Johnnie.
