DEWAR, John Hector - Hector peacefully passed away with his son Gavin by his side at the Hamilton General Hospital on Friday, July 28th 2017 in his 96th year. Beloved Husband to his first wife Isabel (Schaefer); dear Father to his two sons Gavin Dewar of Hamilton and Dennis (MaryAnne) Dewar of Thunder Bay and cherished Grandfather to his grandson Jonathan Dewar of Thunder Bay. He is also survived by his step-daughter Nancy (Larry) Cook and step-granddaughter Stacey Cook and many nieces and nephews. Hector is predeceased by his parents John and Winnie Dewar; brothers Donald, Robert, Andrew, Kenneth Dewar; sisters Freda Morrell, Jean Tripp, Vera Blackshaw, Margaret McCrae and Ruth Anne Dewar and second wife Verna (Hutchinson). Hector will be missed by his family and friends. He always was quick with a joke and a smile on his face. They will remember him as a mentor, a leader, a story teller and a man who would give the shirt off his back. His Kiwanis Lodge buddy’s will remember him as the “King of the fruitcakes.” Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place at the Grace United Church (350 Grove Street East, Barrie) on Friday, September 1st, 2017 at 11:30 a.m., with visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. Lunch will be provided after the service followed by the interment at Innisvale Cemetery, Thornton. Should friends desire, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Grace United Church or to a charity of their choice may be made through the JENNETT FUNERAL & CREMATION CENTRE, 152 Bradford Street in Barrie.
