In Loving Memory
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of John Dyck on October 30, 2023 at the Ottawa General Hospital at the age of 94. John and Heidi, his beloved wife of 37 years, were thankfully able to share these precious last moments together. John and Heidi lived each day with a love that was visible to all who knew them. John was a gentle loving man who embraced each day with kindness and a desire to make each day special.
John was born in Macklin, Saskatchewan on December 2, 1928. After graduating from the University of B.C. in 1951, he opened his own pharmacy in Kelowna B.C. in February of 1955. John was an innovative community pharmacist, one of the first to keep patient medication records.
He served as a member of the B.C. Pharmacy Planning Commission and President of the B.C. College of Pharmacists. His desire to make a difference in his community led him to serve as President of the B.C. Jaycees and of the Rotary Club, and Campaign Chair of the Kelowna United Way. He later became the President of the Canadian Pharmacists Association in 1972.
John was an active member of St. Timothy’s Presbyterian Church. John and Heidi are loved by the church members whose lives John certainly touched and enriched with his kind nature.
A service for John will be held at St. Timothy’s Presbyterian Church, 2400 Alta Vista, Ottawa, on Thursday, November 16th, 2023 at 1:30 pm.
John is survived by his loving wife, Heidi Dyck, his sister-in-law Melita Hanna, his sister Vera (Johann) Funk, his children Quentin (Alison), Derek (Margaret), Lori Biffard (Neil) and Earl Van Dyke (Linda), his grandchildren Jordan and Diana Dyck, Todd Biffard (Simone) Ryan Biffard (Camila) and Glen Biffard (Angie), Jade and Lauren Van Dyke, and great grandchildren Mikka and Nevin Biffard, Kate and Scott Biffard
