John King

June 14, 1930 — February 24, 2021

Pickering

Ret. RAF Squadron Leader

John was born in Sussex, England, lived in the USA for a time then moved and became a proud Canadian. His greatest joy involved his career in the RAF prior to corporate flying with the Churchill Falls Labrador Corp.  and later salesman with de Havilland Canada. He was a true gentleman who enjoyed hosting parties (especially lobster fests). His pleasures in earlier days were golfing, curling, travelling, photography  and even camping.  John was an avid reader, an aircraft / railway modeller, a TV control guardian, and a computer enthusiast. John was very conscious of proper English, the correct facts on historical and aviation information and he detested caps worn backwards.

For ten years John was the editor of Toronto’s Aircrew Association newsletter before becoming president. While in the RAF, in 1959 he received a commendation for meritous service in Bomber Command. In 1969  he was mentioned in RAF dispatches whereupon he was honoured to wear an oak leaf. He also received the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal through his work with the ACA.

John leaves his wife Carol (Bonisteel), daughter Vicki (Peter) Craig and their children Stephen, Matthew and Alicia; son Chris (Michelle) and children  Brooke, Tristan, Cassidy, Chelsey and great-grands Willow and Echo. He is remembered by Jean King the mother of his children, cousin Jenny in the UK, in-laws, cousins and friends.

The support of Dr. Luigi Pedretti and the wonderful PSWs (especially Kamisha) was greatly appreciated.

In John’s memory, a donation to the Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre, 86 Colborne St. W, Oshawa, L1G 1L7  would be appreciated and do a kind deed as our Pickering neighbours have done for us.

‘We’re meant to lose the people we love.  How else would we know how important they are to us.’
