Warne, John Leonard (Len), 1940-2020
Passed peacefully on August 9th at the Elisabeth Bruyere Hospital in Ottawa
Len will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his daughter, Penny Warne (Tom Stubinski), and son, Stephen Warne (Linda Pilon), and grandchildren Michael and Lindsay. Len was predeceased by his parents, Erie Ellen (Nellie) Hamilton and Albert Leonard (Penny) Warne of Indian Head, SK.
Len was born in Indian Head, Saskatchewan in 1940 where he attended school from 1946 to 1957. In 1957, he joined the RCAF Reserve while studying at the University of Saskatoon. In 1958 he transferred to the Ottawa Valley where he worked as a radar technician at the RCAF Foymont base until 1960. Len then transferred to the Uplands base in Ottawa where he met his wife, Lorraine MacLean. He continued his education at Carleton University, attaining his B.A. in psychology. In 1969, Len and family moved to Richmond, Ontario. In the following years, he worked for the Treasury Board of Canada and retired from his position as Benefits Director in 1990.
Len was a kind, devoted father who spent countless hours supporting the hobbies and endeavors of his children and grandchildren. His many other passions included reading, football and hockey, the soulfulness of hiking in the Adirondacks, and generally trying to unlock the secrets of the universe.
Len's family would like to extend their gratitude to his neighbours for being such good and caring friends to Len, and to the medical staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital and Elisabeth Bruyere Hospital Palliative staff for their thoughtful and compassionate care of Len in his final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Len's memory to the Ottawa autism group, Children at Risk.
