Jonathan “Jon” Pinksen, aka Uncle Buck, passed away with dignity and grace on Friday November 25, 2022. His wife, their two cats, and close friends by his side.
He was born on May 14, 1974, in Sept Iles, raised in Deer Lake Newfoundland, and spent much of his time both on stage and behind the scenes working in the performing arts, a pursuit that would introduce him to many lifelong friends, and eventually his wife.
Jon is predeceased by his brother, Chris and mother, Karen, and survived by his wife, Ashley; his brother, Tony; his father, Scott; his sister-in-law, Cherrie; his nephews, Christopher “C-Pup”, Victor, Logan, and Braydan; his niece, Suzanne, and many other loving family members.
Jon was best known for living his values every day of his too-short life. “The best man you ever met” was awarded to him more times than can be counted. Perhaps the best way to know him is to know his words. And so, please enjoy this short poem written by Jon during his own moments of sorrow, and feel comforted by his words, as so many were.
Without our friends, we are lost. Bereft of our brothers and sisters, we carry our burdens alone. Singularly, our cries of joy, or anguish, bounce off trees that may or may not be audible when they fall.
None of us can make sense of the incomprehensible. And that's just fine, because there is nothing to say that can satisfy our hurt. We all share that. And we share each other.
So kiss your lover, and slap your friends on the back. Tell some stories, and have a drink. Look around at those you are near, and be glad that we are, in this very moment, living the solution to our sadness.
We are together, and we love.
