Joseph (Joe) Grant McCandless

Passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with Mesothelioma cancer with his family by his side on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, age 72 at the Saint-Vincent Hospital in Ottawa.

Beloved partner of Shelley Sills (deceased). Joe will be truly missed by his loving sons, Mike (and best friend) and Joe; his sisters, Gail,  Debbie (Bruce), JoAnne (Sam), Debbi (Dean) and by many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He will also be missed by his good pals, Ken Brousseau, Pat Birrell and numerous friends in Whitby, including those at the Tap and Tankard Pub as well as in Ottawa, including those at the Greenfields Pub. Joe enjoyed good food and wine; watching the Blue Jays baseball and Notre Dame football games with son Mike; playing and watching golf and kibitzing with his buddies at the pubs.  

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Saint-Vincent Hospital and the Ottawa General Hospital for their care and compassion.

As per Joe’s wishes, he will be cremated at Basic Funerals and Cremation in Ottawa.

A Celebration of Life Open House will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Debbie and Bruce Tomkins’ home, 37 Fieldcrest Ave., Nepean, Ottawa ON K2J 4Y8 from 1:00 pm to 5 pm.
