Joseph Gavin MacInnis

February 27, 1969 – September 17, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce Joe’s passing on Sunday, September 17th at the age of 54 in Toronto, Ontario.

Joe loved his children, Ceilidh, Maggie, and William (Will). Joe is dearly missed by those who truly loved him.

Joe was an avid golfer, having played at 31 of the world’s top 100 golf courses, including six of the top ten. He taught those around him the importance of the Masters, Open (British), and the PGA. He loved hockey, coaching his son, Will, in competitive hockey through to Ontario’s double A and triple A leagues. He enthusiastically coached his daughter, Maggie, and her team in softball.

Joe often spoke fondly about his childhood summers in Cape Breton, recalling picking blueberries from the wild blueberry bushes, catching fireflies, coal slag fields, ceilidh’s, and endless cribbage games. He was grateful for time spent in Cape Breton, having reacquainted himself with the breathtaking beauty and friendliness that is Cape Breton.

Joe was the consummate jokester and prankster, never missing an opportunity to engage in clever verbal banter. A true master at jest. Joe’s laughter will be missed.

Joe found peace and solace in his church, Immaculate Conception Catholic Parish. The Church garden was a special place for Joe – he contemplated and prayed in the quietness under the St. Francis of Assisi statue.

Joe was especially appreciative for the exceptional care received at the Centre for Addiction & Mental Health (CAMH) and the Toronto Centre for Liver Disease – Francis Family Liver Clinic at Toronto General Hospital/University Health Network (TGH/UHN). At Joe’s request, there will not be a funeral or memorial service. Joe’s ashes will be scattered in accordance with his wishes.
