Judith (Judy) Elizabeth Houlihan, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, educator, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2024, at "La Maison De L’est" Hospice in Ottawa, Ontario, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on July 15, 1951, and was a beacon of strength and joy throughout her life.
Judy dedicated over three decades to the field of education, beginning her career teaching physical education at Bishops College, where her passion for nurturing young minds flourished. She spent the bulk of her career at Morris Academy, where she not only impacted the lives of countless students but also formed lifelong friendships with her colleagues. Judy eventually rose to the position of Vice Principal, a role in which she continued to inspire and mentor others, leaving an indelible mark on the academic community.
Judy was deeply committed to her family, which was her pride and joy. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Houlihan, and their two sons, Karl Houlihan (Kathy) and Christopher Dawe (Tiffanie). She was a cherished grandmother to Alice, Linkoln, Kipling, Arden, Willow, and Avery, who brought immense happiness into her life. Her love extended to her siblings, including sisters Margret Ryan (Patrick) and Jean Penney, and brothers Robert Miller, Paul Miller (Wandy), and Brian Miller (Carol Anne). She also held a special place in her heart for her brothers-in-law Neil Houlihan (Rosalyn) and Max Houlihan (Wendy), as well as her sisters-in-law Una Miller and Diane Miller.
Judy's unwavering zest for life and affection for the outdoors and her friends were evident in everything she did. She was a nurturing spirit, devoted to caring for her family and those around her, embodying strength and encouragement for all who knew her. Her laughter, kindness, and love will be sorely missed by all whose lives she touched.
Judith is predeceased by her father, William Miller; her mother, Catherine Miller; and her brothers Michael Miller, David Miller, and William Miller. She also mourned the loss of her father-in-law, Joseph Houlihan, and mother-in-law, Edith Houlihan.
In the final months of her life, Judy received compassionate care from the dedicated staff at La Maison De L’est Hospice, the Orleans Palliative Care Team, and the Oncology ward 6E at the Ottawa General Hospital, for which her family expresses their heartfelt gratitude.
Judy leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and an extraordinary commitment to education that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
