Julia Pauline Elizabeth Marchand (Née Sonier)

With our hearts saddened by loss, but overflowing with wonderful memories, our family shares the news that Julie passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on July 6 at home surrounded by her daughters. Julie was the youngest child of the late Benjamin and Julia Sonier of Summerside, PEI. Deeply loved by her late husband Patrick. Devoted mother to Kelly (Jim Petrunka), Andrea (Mike Marleau) and Chantale (Geoffrey Roberts). Adoring and forever cherished grandmother to Laura (Rachel Murray), Sam, Kate and Matt and great-grandmother to Harper. She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews and friends and her three grand-dogs that she spoiled.

Julie had a generous and kind heart that reached family and friends around the world. She had a unique gift of making one feel loved and special. She was also known for her sense of humour and continued to bring laughter to her family even in her final days. Julie was an avid reader, baker, gardener, scrabble player, and fan of Jeopardy. She especially loved decorating her home at Christmas and over the years, created five beautifully-themed trees.

Julie was a resilient and resourceful military wife and moved across Canada and Europe with her husband and young children in tow. She had fond memories of their family camping trips in Germany, France, Italy and Spain and at home in PEI and Ontario. Wherever she moved, Julie created a loving home for her family. As a bookkeeper, Julie was able to find employment in whatever new city she found herself in and would quickly become a valued member of the team.

The family would like to thank the staff, nurses and doctors at the Ottawa Heart Institute, the Ottawa Palliative Community Care Team, and the nurses from St. Elizabeth's for their professional and caring support. Cremation has taken place and the family will be having a Celebration of Life on September 14 in Ottawa. Details to be sent to family and friends.

In memory of Julie, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Ottawa Heart Institute or plant a flower! Any donation is greatly appreciated.
