Karen Jane Ulrich passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital on June 3rd, 2021, at the age of 72 surrounded by her family.
Karen was born to Janet and Douglas Robinson on January 14, 1949 in Scarborough, Ontario. As a child she loved spending time with her family, especially visiting her aunt Jean's and aunt Olive’s cottages in Lake Simcoe. As a teen she belonged to many social clubs and developed a great love for folk music and reading fiction—two passions that lasted throughout her life.
Karen met her husband Lothar while attending Cedarbrae Collegiate Institute in Scarborough and were married on November 1st, 1969 at Scarborough Bluffs United Church. Together they loved music, art, antiquing, and going on road trips. Favourite destinations were Niagara-on-the-Lake, Montréal and Quebec City. They went on to have two children, Jason and Lindsay.
Karen had a long career, first in public health and later in advertising at J. Walter Thompson in accounting. Karen was a warm, caring, inclusive person who was before everything, kind to others. She also had a witty sense of humour and loved making people laugh. Her warmth and kindness will be deeply missed by those who knew her.
Karen is predeceased by her parents Janet and Douglas Robinson, and survived by her brother Ian Robinson, husband Lothar, and children Jason (Susan) and Lindsay.
A celebration of life memorial service for Karen will be held when it's safe and possible under Covid restrictions. We will release details when we know more.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Karen's name to the Alzheimer's Society of Toronto.
