Karyna Laroche

January 7, 1962 — June 29, 2017

Suddenly, but surrounded by her family, Karyna shuffled off her mortal
coil on Thursday, June 29. She was born in Ottawa on January 7, 1962.
A brilliant writer and scholar, she earned her Master's Degree in
Canadian Studies from Carleton University in 1988 and an honorary
Ph.D. in feistiness from the School of Hard Knocks.
She had a lifelong passion for art and music, and was an avid
collector of artworks by up-and-coming artists. In 2015, she made her
trip of a lifetime to London, England with the indefatigable
assistance of her good friend and travel companion, Samantha Kauppi.
Sadly, she didn't get to meet either of the favourite (non-family) men
in her life: David Bowie or Benedict Cumberbatch on any of her
travels, but her ardour for them never faded.
Karyna leaves behind her amazing mother, Julia Laroche, her siblings
Yazmine (Terry), Khristian (Kate) and Indrani (Conan), her beloved
nephews Chaz and Dexter, her cherished cousin Elsa Wadstein, as well
as her best friend, Joyce Mortimer. Also grieving are her extended
family members around the world. She was predeceased by her beloved
father Rocky and her brother Jan.
Special thanks to her family physician, Dr. Susan Sollars for her
tender care, her Network for their companionship and assistance, to
her long-time caregiver Oudone Aphayavong, and to those attendants at
Cardinus Housing Co-op who helped lighten her independent living
challenges.
In her memory, you may wish to make a donation to Muscular Dystrophy
Canada or to an animal shelter near you.

A mass will be held at 11 and a reception at noon, Saturday, July 8 at Hope Cemetery,
4660 Bank Street, Ottawa Ontario.
