Kathleen Isabella Evans aka KATIE
Born August 31, 1999 – Died January 2, 2019
Tragically and suddenly on the evening of January 2, 2019 Katie who was a Grade 12 student ended her life.
Survived by her mother Nancy Evans and her brother Eric Evans. Predeceased by her grandmother Kathleen Tyndall and grandpa Cliff Tyndall.
Katie had been extremely devastated and distraught ever since November 2018 when we brought home our specially trained “service dog” Bailey from Ry-Con Service Dogs in Raleigh, North Carolina who was supposed to be trained with service dog tasks to help mitigate her numerous disabilities. After we got home with Bailey we realized we had a completely untrained, not socialized and reactive puppy. She was not potty trained, obedience trained or service dog trained with any tasks to mitigate Katie’s extreme anxieties. The worst part was her hyper-reactivity to men (including Katie’s brother) and sensitivity to noise. She barked and growled constantly looking out the window. She also ran upstairs every time her brother left his room to even use the bathroom. It got so bad her brother couldn’t leave his room and come downstairs to eat or leave the apartment without us crating Bailey. She was professionally assessed by a service dog trainer who determined that she did not have the right temperament to be a service dog and was in fact very reactive to men and noises and was very hard to redirect and hard to train and it would be a miracle if she could ever be trained to be a service dog for Katie. Katie was extremely distraught and devastated that her “service dog” Bailey would not work out for our family. We later found out that Bailey had been abused at the training facility. Katie stopped going to school as her school had been expecting Katie to start bringing Bailey and that was impossible. Her dreams of a better, more independent, less anxious future were completely shattered. Katie became extremely angry and depressed and obviously tormented. Katie was matched with a new service dog prospect from a new Service Dog Training Co. around Dec. 26th, 2018. She was going to have to wait 18 long months for her salvation and dream to come true of a better, more fulfilling, more independent life. Katie was in such emotional turmoil that she unexpectedly, impulsively and shockingly committed suicide. Rest in Peace my beautiful only daughter! You and I were best friends as well as mother and daughter! I can’t describe in words how much I miss you already. I pray that your grandmother Kathleen and great grandmother Kathleen and great great grandmother Kathleen and your grandpa Cliff are taking good care of you in Heaven and that you are completely at peace at last! I love you so much and we will be together again one day my beloved daughter Katie! xoxoxoxo
