Kathryn Ann DuMaresq passed away suddenly on July 29th, 2023, at the age of 63 (September 9th, 1959). Kathy was many things to many people. Daughter to Tom and Betty Banks, sister to Rob Banks (Cathy), Mother to Bradley and Brian (David), Grandmother to Lucy and Nora, an aunt, cousin, and a friend.
Her most enjoyable hobbies included playing word games, doing jigsaw puzzles, playing wheel of fortune on her tablet, and playing solo card games such as solitaire on the computer. She liked gardening and taking care of her flowers every day. Country music was a favourite genre of hers, though she was open to many kinds of music, taking an interest in both her sons taste and took a liking to Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged live album. She loved her cup(s) of tea, making sure to either grab one from Tim Horton’s on her way to and from work, or after a day of running errands. She was a massive animal lover, specifically cats and dogs, owning many pets over the years (Coco the cat, Riley the dog, Oscar the cat, Lucy the cat, and Olive the cat) Above all else, she lived to make her two boys happy, and her two granddaughters happy in any way she could.
Even into her 60’s, she was an incredibly hard worker at her Longo’s Leaside grocery store, alongside her close friend and boss Josie.
Kathy was an incredibly selfless person, always putting others before her. She never left her son Brian’s side while he battled through his anxiety issues and a slight brush with Thyroid cancer. When her son Bradley was attending college in St. Catharines, she was always willing to go pick him up and bring him home for weekends and drive him back to school as well. She took an extended leave from work to be with her mother in hospital as she awaited hip surgery, and every Saturday morning would go and see her mom at the seniors center she lived in until her passing in late 2021.
With their mom’s best wishes in mind, Kathy’s boys have decided to not hold a funeral or visitation. They, along with their father, will have a private burial at Park Lawn cemetery at a later date, afterwards anyone wishing to pay their respects are welcome to do so at their own leisure. Please contact Brian DuMaresq at 416-523-9748 or brian.dumaresq@gmail.com if you would like someone to meet you at the cemetery when you plan on visiting.
If you would like to honour Kathy and her love of animals, please consider donating to your local animal shelter/humane society in memory of her.
