Kellie Hinnells

It is with saddened hearts that the family and friends of Kellie Ann Hinnells announce her passing at the age of 56. On April 16th, 2022 her battle with cancer ended peacefully. On May 31st, 1965 Kellie was born in Hamilton, Ontario to Helen and William Hinnells. She is survived by her brother Kevin Hinnells and sister Paige Wallace. Fondly remembered by her cousins Cheryl Turner and Shannon Morphet… loving aunts Barb and Kim….and favourite Uncle Larry! Kellie had a wonderful connection 8 years ago. Her older sister Jodie who was given up for adoption, found Kellie through birth records. They shared a very close relationship with many fond memories. Kellie had a special bond with her nephew Aaron. They were each other’s favourite person. His Auntie “Smellie” will live in his heart forever.

Growing up Kellie had a passion for the game of hockey and spent years as a goalie in the girl’s league. She equally loved softball and was a star pitcher for years in the women’s league. Her favourite glove and bat always remained in her car even though she could no longer play.

Kellie attended Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School from 1978-1982. She was also educated at Sheridan College, McMaster University and Mohawk College. She loved coaching many disciplines of sport at Delta High School in Hamilton. For the past 30 years Kellie was involved in the sport of Gymnastics as an administrator and leader...working for the KW Gymnastics Club & Ottawa Gymnastics Club as Executive Director and previously Gymnastics Ontario as Technical Director. She was heavily involved in OFFSA, Provincial and National Championships, Ontario Winter Games, International Children’s Games and the Pan American Games. Whether her role was volunteering, hosting, mentoring or leading, Kellie gave 100% but always stood in the shadows making sure everyone else was recognized for their efforts. She understood the importance of making people feel valued. Kellie had such a gentle and calm approach to people. She welcomed everyone into her office with jars of candy (that always remained full) and a Disney décor that would be the envy of Walt himself. Mickey Mouse and Tigger were her favourite characters. Even her beloved cat was named Tiggery Doo!! A small amount of Kellie’s ashes were spread in the Magic Kingdom beneath the Walt and Mickey statue adjacent to the Cinderella’s Castle. A part of her will remain in a place she loved so much.

Kellie travelled the world with her dear friends Gene and Lynn. She really had a wonderful life and was so grateful for all the opportunities she had but most importantly the many friends who enriched her life and loved her so dearly. You will be missed Kellie….you made a difference in this world and you will be remembered by everyone you touched. We know you are in heaven… able to play hockey again and standing on the mound throwing strikes! YOU ARE LOVED!!
