Kelly James Smith

Kelly James Smith January 19, 1971 – July 20, 2019
Kelly was born in Edmonton, Alberta to Patricia and Gerry Smith. He graduated from the University of Alberta in 1994 with an undergraduate degree in History. Kelly continued his education at the University of Calgary graduating with a degree in Law in 1999. He articled in Toronto and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2001. Kelly's success as a litigator encouraged him to start his own mediation company in 2012. As a mediator he was able to navigate through tough insurance claims satisfying both parties with the final results. Others sought him out for advice and mentoring which he was happy to share.
Kelly was known as a smart, kind and generous soul who would give you the shirt off his back. He never spoke ill of anyone and found good in all.
Kelly succumbed to his illness with his mother Patricia, wife Nicole and children Connor and Lauren by his side. Kelly is survived by the above including his father Gerry and brother Ryan.
The family will host a wake in Kelly's honour at the family home on Saturday July 27, 2019 at 4 pm. An additional service will take place in Edmonton at a future date.
