Kendol Bandfield Thompson “Ken” was born in the beautiful, sunny Caribbean Island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, to Maggie Thompson and Claude John.
His life in St Vincent, as a little boy growing up, was vibrant. He enjoyed playing marbles, climbing mango trees, going to the beach, and roaming with his childhood friend Innis. His favourite snacks were corn curls, peanuts and red Ju-c.
In his young adulthood, Ken was a skilled carpenter and helped to build a house in St. Vincent for his mother and the family. He migrated to Toronto Canada in 1972 and married the (late) Celia Thompson.
Ken was a very dedicated and hard worker. He enjoyed 30 years of employment with Cutting Limited, the once well-known paper factory in Toronto. In his spare time, he was quite the steel pan player, a decorated championship Domino player, who would often give “six love“ to his opponents and was also an amateur tennis player. For a time, he also volunteered for Meals On Wheels, delivering food to seniors who are unable to prepare meals for themselves around his community.
Ken’s happiest moments were, enjoying good home cooked food and tropical drinks, spending time with his beloved family and friends. His most memorable moments were giving his life to Christ at the age of 75, then entering the watery grave of baptism and being raised renewed, at Central SDA Church on June 30, 2018.
Ken will be remembered for his jovial personality and his sayings, which guided our lives in some way shape or form. Some of his favourites were, “You better do something before something do you” and “it’s not the day, but the life that counts”.
