Kenneth Douglas Easun

d. December 12, 2017

On December 12th our father and friend Doug Easun passed quietly at the age of 93 with his family beside him. He was a World War II veteran who served in the R.C.A.F. in England and North Africa as an engine mechanic on the Halifax and Lancaster bombers. While stationed in London he met our mom, Vera Hilling, at Hammersmith Palais. He was a shy guy and told us often of the long walk across that dance floor to ask mom to dance – with uncertainty ahead of him. She said yes! And so began seventy-three years of commitment and love. Doug lived a life of dedication to his family, supporting four children- Jennifer, Nancy, Valerie and Stewart. He had many and varied jobs throughout the years, all taken on with the clear goal of supporting his family. He was a brilliant salesman and retired from Leon's in 1989. He knew how to make people feel at ease and his friendly, kind demeanour was a mainstay for his jobs and in his everyday life. It has been our honour to share life with our father, as it has been for his wife and our mom Vera, for his sons-in-law Frank and Peter, (and their extended families), grandchildren Mandy (Tim), Josh (Andrea), Alicia and Kyle, and his great grandchildren Haley, Ryan, Madison, Jack and William, as well as many friends. Doug had a kind, gentle soul with a generous heart. He was renowned for being the king of corny jokes. We will remember that legacy. It has been a blessing for us all to know him and the world was a better place because of him. Doug will be cremated as per his wishes. The family will have a memorial at a later date.
