Kenneth Passehl

June 1, 1955 — May 25, 2013

Kenneth Arnold Passehl (Ken) passed away on Saturday, May 25th in 2013 after a year-long fight with pancreatic cancer.  It was one week prior to his 58th birthday.  Ken was born on June 1st in 1955 in Oceanside, California to Marjorie Ann Johnson and Arnold Henry Passehl.  Ken had an older sister, Marlys, and a younger sister, Janis, by the same parents.  The couple separated, though both parents continued to live in Vista, and Marjorie remarried and gave birth to another daughter, April.  Arnold remarried to Elizabeth Christ, who had two daughters, Michelle and Kimberlye, from a prior marriage.  In all, Ken was the only son, and grew up surrounded by five sisters, in addition to his loving parents.  He was a rambunctious child who spent his time playing army games.  As a teenager, he enjoyed going to concerts with friends.  He graduated from Vista High School in 1973.  On May 12th, 1979, Ken married Susan Seal of Escondido, California.  The couple briefly resided in Escondido, then moved to raise their two children in San Marcos, California.  When the couple separated after 12 years of marriage, Ken moved back to Vista, California, where he continued to be a strong presence in his children's lives.  Ken was the type of guy who could fix anything.  Professionally, he used his handy skills in several construction trades, including roofing, grading and paving. He worked alongside his father at Passehl Grading and Paving for several years.  He briefly took over the company when his father retired; however, given the recession in the 1990's, a decision was made to liquidate the family business.  Ken then moved on to work as a heavy equipment operator for other local North County Companies, most recently for LC Paving.  He enjoyed and took great pride in his work.  He often would point out North County roads, parking lots, shopping malls etc. that he had a hand in building.  His work spans the greater San Diego County.  In addition to his professional skills, Ken had several hobbies he enjoyed.  He loved music and taught himself how to play the guitar.  Additionally, he practiced Tae Kwon Do for many years, was an avid paintball player, and was a collector of stamps, coins, model cars and Native American memorabilia.  He was passionate about riding his motorcycles.  His closest friends and family members will remember him as a story teller, with a unique ability to make every-day experiences and frustrations hilarious.  He was a devout Christian, and attended Calvary Chapel in Vista, California.  Ken is survived by his daughter, Chaundra Passehl, and his son, Joshua Passehl.  Additionally, he is survived by his mother, Marjorie Exline, and father and step-mother, Arnold and Elizabeth Passehl, along with his five sisters, and several nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by Arron Lefebrve, his nephew, Cherin Wilson-Vierstra, his niece, and Donald Exline, his mother's husband.  In honor and remembrance of his life, an inurnment ceremony will take place at San Marcos Cemetery on Friday, June 28th in 2013 at eleven in the morning.
