Kevin passed unexpectedly in his 28th year at his home in Mississauga, Ontario. He is survived by his mother, Joanne E. Simpson, father Robert M. Saundercook, brother Ryan J. Saundercook, grandmother Lena Simpson (nee Scatton) and soon to be stepmother Gretchen Casey. Predeceased by his grandfathers Lloyd Simpson and Lorne Saundercook, grandmother Elizabeth Saundercook (nee Lefaive), and his uncle Chuck Saundercook. He is also remembered with much love and affection by his numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Kevin fought a lengthy and difficult battle with substance use disorder, which he never gave up on. Despite his best efforts, this battle ended peacefully due to accidental fentanyl poisoning, a devastating and stark reality for so many families during the challenging times that we live in. We thank the first responders who worked tirelessly and tried their best to bring Kevin back to us during the morning of November 18th.
Kevin will be deeply missed and remembered for his empathy, spontaneity, offbeat sense of humour, boldness, and his zest for life. Despite his struggles, Kevin loved being on this earth and enjoyed spending time in nature including long walks at Credit Valley Conservation or a nearby pond and woods, rafting down the Credit River, or childhood vacations on Georgian Bay. He was always up for a game of poker or chess, entertaining friends with his magic tricks, a good book or film, a meal of extremely spicy food, or a game of football. Most importantly, Kevin loved all animals (especially best friend Archie), along with his widely diverse group of friends, and his family.
Kevin has left us far too soon and the sadness felt by his mom, dad and brother is beyond description. Our hearts will never mend, but we have comfort in knowing that he will live on in our precious memories.
A memorial will be held at a later date.
